Trojan Volleyball opened Thursday evening's match against Episcopal School of Dallas with a fast start, cruising to a 3-0 sweep of the Eagles.
The opening set featured a point-for-point battle early, with the teams tied at 9-9 before TCA began to pull away. A combination of Eagles' errors and scrappy Trojan defense turning into offense helped TCA build a 17-10 advantage. The Trojans continued to apply pressure and closed out the first set, 25-13, behind a seven-point service run from
Natalia Kattan.
TCA carried its momentum into the second set, jumping out to a 6-0 lead with
Karolina Haas at the service line. The Trojans quickly extended the advantage to 10-2, forcing an ESD timeout. Following the break,
Peyton Walton and
Sydney Stewart teamed up for a block to keep the momentum in TCA's favor. Strong serving continued to disrupt the Eagles' offensive rhythm, and a lengthy service run from
Lily Brewer helped the Trojans establish their largest lead of the match thus far at 15-2. TCA went on to take the second set, 25-10.
ESD responded with an early run in the third set, taking a 5-0 lead before extending its advantage to 14-8. TCA head coach
Erin Terry called timeout, and the Trojans regrouped to mount a comeback. TCA put together a pair of runs to cut the deficit to 16-14, prompting an ESD timeout. The remainder of the set featured a back-and-forth exchange, with the Eagles reaching 20 first. The Trojans continued to battle, eventually tying the set at 22-22 behind kills from Haas and
Anya Ouimette, along with ESD errors. With the score tied at 23-23, Stewart provided a pivotal spark with a solo block on the Eagles' outside hitter. Ouimette and Walton then delivered kills to close out the set, 26-24, and complete the 3-0 sweep.
Karolina Haas and
Peyton Walton led the Trojans offensively, while Kattan anchored the defensive effort. TCA also found success from the service line, with several aces from Haas, Kattan and Ouimette.
All 15 available Trojans saw action in the match.
TCA will return to the MCB on Tuesday, Sept. 22, for its final non-district match of the season against HSAA. The Trojans will then travel to Nolan Catholic on Tuesday, Sept. 29, to open district play.
