The Trojan Varsity Volleyball team picked up a dominant 3-0 district victory over Liberty Christian Thursday night inside a packed MCB Gym. With a Blue Out theme bringing Trojan students out in full force, TCA used the home-court energy to fuel a strong performance from start to finish.
TCA set the tone immediately in the opening set, jumping out to a 3-0 lead and maintaining an advantage throughout. After Liberty Christian tied the set at 20-20, the Trojans responded with a 3-0 run to regain control.
Sarah Wong and
Peyton Walton delivered kills to close out the set, 25-22. Wong led the Trojans with four kills in the opening frame.
The Trojans carried that momentum into the second set, again opening with a 3-0 run behind a pair of Liberty Christian errors and an ace from
Lily Brewer. The teams traded points early before TCA created separation at 15-13. A 5-2 run pushed the Trojans to a 20-15 advantage, and TCA closed out the set, 25-21, on a Liberty Christian service error. Through two sets, Wong and
Anya Ouimette each recorded seven kills.
TCA continued to control the match in the third set, building an 11-7 lead before Liberty Christian called timeout. The Trojan offense stayed hot behind Ouimette, Brewer and Wong, while
Peyton Walton made her presence felt at the net with key blocks against the Warriors' attack. TCA extended its lead to 17-12 and never looked back, taking the final set 25-17 to complete the sweep.
Wong, Ouimette and Brewer provided a consistent offensive presence throughout the match, each finishing with five or more kills. Walton anchored the defense at the net, while sophomore
Sydney Stewart efficiently distributed the ball across the Trojan attack. Defensive specialist
Natalia Kattan commanded the back row and was recognized following the match for recording her
800th career dig at TCA.
With the victory, the Trojans improve to 1-1 in district play and carry momentum into the final week of the first round of district competition. TCA returns home Tuesday, October 6, to face Parish before hosting Nolan on Thursday, October 8.
