The Trojan Varsity Volleyball team returned home to the MCB on Tuesday night for its Dig Pink match, honoring breast cancer survivors and raising awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. TCA hosted Parish Episcopal in its final match of the first half of district play, earning a three-set sweep, 25-11, 25-19, 25-14.
TCA set the tone early in the opening set, jumping out to a 6-0 lead behind the serving of
Lily Brewer. The Trojans continued to control the set, extending their advantage to 15-5 behind a dominant offensive attack. TCA built its largest lead at 23-10 before a Parish error and a
Sydney Stewart ace secured the opening set 25-11. Brewer and
Sarah Wong led the Trojans with three kills apiece.
The Panthers opened the second set with an early 3-5 advantage, but the lead quickly disappeared.
KK Ball shut down the Parish offense with a block and Stewart followed with an ace to even the set at 5-5. The Trojans then opened a 10-7 lead, forcing a Parish timeout. TCA continued to pressure the Panthers with aggressive serving that disrupted Parish's offense and led to multiple unforced errors.
Grace Powers delivered an ace to extend the lead to 17-13 and force Parish to use its final timeout. Late in the set, Stewart connected with freshman
Karolina Haas to help the Trojans create separation and secure the second set 25-19. Haas led TCA with five kills in the set.
The third set remained close early before
Nataleigh Brown sparked a run from the service line to give TCA an 8-4 advantage. Parish answered with four straight points to tie the set at 8-8. At 9-9, the MCB erupted as senior
Olivia Whorton entered the match for her first action of the season. Whorton had spent the majority of the season recovering from an injury after being named the district's Most Valuable Player and First Team All-State in 2025. Making her long-awaited return, Whorton immediately made an impact, recording her first kill with TCA leading 20-13 before adding another to extend the lead to 21-13. She finished the set with four kills as the Trojans closed out the match with a 25-14 three set victory.
TCA's aggressive serving created consistent reception difficulties for Parish throughout the match. Brewer recorded two aces, while Powers, Brown and Wong each added one. Ouimette, Haas and Wong led the Trojan attack with seven kills apiece, while Stewart,
Noelle Lewis and Brown helped orchestrate an efficient offensive performance.
Natalia Kattan anchored the defense from the back row. All 16 Trojans saw action in the match as TCA completed the sweep and closed the first half of district play on a strong note. The team improves to 2-1 in district entering the second half of play and staying in the tight playoff race.
The Trojans return to the MCB for their final home district match on Thursday, October 8, against Nolan Catholic. TCA will look to avenge a three-set loss to the Vikings in Fort Worth on September 29.
