Volleyball Falls to Liberty Christian in Seeding Match

The Trojan Volleyball team faced Liberty Christian in a District 1-6A play-in match for the final playoff berth on Monday at Legacy Christian Academy in Frisco. Despite rallying to win the third set, TCA fell to the Warriors in four sets, ending its postseason hopes.

The opening set featured a back-and-forth battle, with neither team able to establish a significant advantage early. Liberty eventually built a 8-14 lead, forcing a TCA timeout, before extending its advantage to 10-20. The Trojans fought off two set points but ultimately dropped the opening set 16-25.

TCA fell behind 2-5 to begin the second set before a strong serving stretch from Lily Brewer helped the Trojans even the score at 7-7. The teams continued to trade momentum, with the Trojans battling back from a four-point deficit to tie the set at 14-14 following a block by Karolina Haas. Later, a combined block from Haas and KK Ball brought TCA within one at 19-20. An Olivia Whorton kill made it 22-23, and the Trojans continued to fight through a series of ties. Haas recorded her third block of the set to even the score at 24-24, and Sydney Stewart added a block to tie it again at 25-25. However, Liberty claimed the final two points to win the set 25-27 and took a two-set lead.

The Trojans responded in the third set, using their late momentum to build an early advantage. After the teams traded points, an Anya Ouimette kill helped TCA establish a 9-6 lead. Ouimette continued to deliver offensively, extending the advantage to 12-7 and forcing a Liberty timeout. A Peyton Walton kill later helped the Trojans maintain a 18-13 lead, but the Warriors fought back to cut the deficit to two at 19-17. Whorton answered with a block, and Ouimette and Ball teamed up for another to keep TCA in front. Ouimette added a crucial kill to make it 23-21 before she and Whorton each recorded a kill to close out the set 25-23 and extend the match.

Liberty regained control in the fourth set, opening with a 0-7 run. The Trojans worked to close the gap, pulling within four at 8-12 after an Ouimette kill. Kennedy Harris added a service ace to bring TCA within four again at 11-15, but the Warriors maintained their advantage down the stretch to secure a 16-25 set victory and a 1-3 match win.

With the loss, the Trojans' 2026 playoff hopes came to an end, as Liberty secured the final postseason berth from District 1-6A. TCA will close out its season Tuesday, October 20, at 6:30 p.m. against Cornerstone Christian. The match will also serve as Senior Night, honoring the Trojans' eight seniors, the largest senior class in recent program history. Although the season will conclude short of the playoffs, the Trojans will have one final opportunity to celebrate their seniors and recognize the contributions of a historic class to the TCA volleyball program.
