Today, the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) announced that six members of the boys varsity basketball team have earned TAPPS 6A District I postseason honors. The news follows a season in which the Trojans surpassed 20 wins and punched their ticket to the regional round of the TAPPS postseason.
The senior backcourt of JJ Price and Christian Cox headlined the TCA lineup with a pair of First Team All-District selections. Both made a tremendous impact on the Trojan offense this season, leading the team in scoring and surpassing 1,000 career points.
Price closes the book on his TCA career as the most accomplished perimeter shooter in program history. His 257 career 3-pointers are the most in school history, and his 153 made 3-pointers this season also set a single-season program record. The fourth-year Trojan ends the year averaging 17.6 ppg while shooting 42% from beyond the arc.
Cox, a new addition to TCA this season, made an immediate impact. The senior guard averaged 16.7 ppg, ranking second on the team, while his 3.4 apg and 6.2 rpg were both team highs.
The trio of Ericksen Appel, Kayden Daniels and Drake Smith represented TCA on the Second Team All-District list. Junior forward Drake Smith was strong on the glass, averaging 5.5 rebounds per game while scoring 10 points per contest. Fellow forward Kayden Daniels enjoyed his best season as a Trojan, shooting an efficient 56% inside the arc and adding 5.3 rpg. Junior guard Ericksen Appel provided a scoring boost on the perimeter, contributing 6.0 ppg while shooting 30% from 3-point range.
Last but certainly not least, freshman Brooks Barton earned All-District Honorable Mention in his first year of high school competition. Barton started several games down the stretch and appeared in 31 contests overall.
