Vanessa Dessommes and
Hayden Dunn continued to lead the Trojan Cross Country teams Thursday morning at the Ryan Gingerbread Jamboree. Dessommes finished the 5k course in a time of 21:40, placing her tenth overall in the Varsity Girls division. In the Varsity Boys division,
Hayden Dunn placed 20
th out of more than 150 runners with a time of 18:15.
The Varsity Girls placed sixth overall in the team standings.
Jessie Lu was the second Trojan to cross the finish line. She completed the course in a time of 24:36. Freshman
Elly Orozco was third on the team, followed by
Adeline Micek and
Audrey Herd, all finishing under 25:35. The Varsity Girls team was the top non-UIL team, ahead of Prestonwood Christian Academy who finished ninth as a team.
The 5K course at Camp Copass was challenging from the start. Within the first half mile, runners experienced their first obstacle on the course, a mud pit. Not only did they experience it in the first loop around the campgrounds, but they also faced it again early in the second loop. The unique course tested the young Trojan teams and helped prepare them for similar challenges they will face later on in the season. Up next, the teams will travel to Boyd to compete in the Yellowjacket Invitational Friday, August 28 at 8 a.m.
