THE RUNDOWN:
In an emotionally charged game that featured a special senior night ceremony and a 30 minute delay in the middle innings, a resilient performance by the TCA varsity baseball team resulted in a 6-3 win over Parish Episcopal Friday night in Addison.
The Trojans (13-11-2, 6-4) erased a two-run deficit in the fifth inning and ultimately pulled away for good with four runs in the sixth courtesy of extra-base hits from Colin Hamilton (2-3) and Elijah Liu (1-3).
There was nothing doing through the first three innings of play. A double to left field put the Panthers on top in the fourth, and Parish would carry a 2-0 advantage through a 30 minute game delay heading into the fifth frame.
However, the Trojan offense ultimately turned on alongside the lights over Trojan Baseball Field. Chase Griffin (1-2, 3 RBI) roped a two-run triple to right-center to tie things up at 2-2.
Back-to-back base knocks from Hamilton and Liu in the home half of the sixth gave TCA a late lead that was cemented by a Jonathan Cook sacrifice fly to end the inning.
On the mound, Everett May fanned four while allowing just two earned runs through five innings of work before ultimately handing the baseball off to senior Brayden Rice. The senior recorded one strikeout while surrendering just a single earned run in the come-from-behind win for the Trojans.
