THE RUNDOWN
On Saturday, the boys varsity golf team erased a five-shot deficit to win the Vernon Newsome Memorial tournament hosted at the Walnut Creek Country Club in Mansfield.
TCA (303-292) played stellar golf over the final 18 holes of action, surpassing tournament leader UIL 6A Mansfield to win the tournament and place three Trojans on the top five leaderboard.
Senior Nate Miller (69-70) fired off a 1-under par 139 to win the individual title. He was joined atop the leaderboard by fellow Trojan and senior teammate Carson Harris. Harris saved his best golf of the tournament for last, carding a low round of 66, 4-under par, to tie Mansfield's Patrick Babb for second place.
Senior Sean Meador was the third Trojan to land a spot in the tournament's top five with a 150, 10-over par final tally. Underclassmen Beck Olinghouse and Bentley Long were both placed in the top half of the tournament to help TCA secure the come-from-behind victory.
HEAD COACH MARSHALL EDWARDS ON THE WIN
"I was really pleased with the overall performance in this tournament," said Coach Marshall Edwards. "As expected, our three seniors are leading the team in scoring. We simply need to improve our overall performance."
