Rodney Belcher

Rodney Belcher comes to TCA with over 20 years of experience coaching girls basketball. Coach Belcher became the inaugural head women's basketball coach at the University of North Texas at Dallas in the fall of 2020. Prior to heading the first women's basketball program at UNTD, Coach Belcher coached girls basketball for fourteen years at Plano High School as an assistant and then served as the head coach. While at Plano High School, he reached a career milestone in 2018 when the Lady Wildcats posted a 35-6 record, captured the Texas Class 6A state championship and earned him the Dallas Morning News’ All-Area Coach of the Year. During his six years as head coach, the Lady Wildcats won 78.9% of their games, compiling a record of 172 wins and 46 losses while winning three district titles. A native of Waco, Belcher began his career coaching boys basketball at Dallas Bryan Adams and McKinney High. He later served as an assistant men’s coach at the University of New Mexico and Baylor.

A two-sport standout at Waco High, he was an All-Centex and two-time All-District point guard on the basketball team and an infielder in baseball. During two years at McLennan Community College in Waco, he played on two basketball conference championship teams. He later played two seasons at the University of North Texas. While at the University of North Texas, Coach Belcher received his bachelor’s in physical education with a minor in political science. He then earned a master’s degree in education administration.

He and his wife, Nakia, attend St. Marks Missionary Baptist Church in McKinney.
